Noranda rebrands as Atlantic Alumina

New Day Aluminum Holdings is pleased to announce the rebranding of its business to the Atlantic Alumina Company (ATALCO). The company, principally owned by Concord Resources, will be rebranding all its metallurgical and non-metallurgical bauxite and alumina operations in a staged rollout over the coming months.

The company’s Louisiana based operations, formerly known as Noranda Alumina and NICHE Chemical, will become Atlantic Alumina Gramercy Operations, with the business covering both metallurgical and non- metallurgical alumina products. The company’s Jamaican based business, formerly known as Noranda Bauxite, will become Discovery Bauxite, with the business covering both metallurgical and non-metallurgical bauxite in partnership with the Government of Jamaica.

Additionally, the company is pleased to announce that its Gramercy refinery had returned to normal production levels earlier in October following the impacts of Hurricane Ida on the facility and the surrounding area. The refinery originally returned to production on Thursday September 2nd, following a planned curtailment on Sunday August 29th, the morning Hurricane Ida made landfall in South Louisiana.

“We are very pleased to have the Gramercy refinery back to normal production levels so quickly considering the many ongoing implications of Hurricane Ida across South Louisiana,” stated Mark Hansen, Concord CEO, who added, “This recovery would not be possible without the dedication of our employees, many of which are still dealing with significant damage to their homes and those of their extended families. We continue to work diligently to understand the evolving needs of our employees and local communities to assist where we can.”

“Gramercy’s recovery was also supported by many of our key supplier, customer, service provider and community partners, many of whom are in various levels of recovery themselves,” cited John Habisreitinger, President of Atlantic Alumina. He added “Our rebranding to Atlantic Alumina is both a recognition of this new era for our Jamaica and Louisiana businesses, as well as a tribute to the resilience of our employees and those partners that have been so instrumental in our journey and helping position us for the opportunities ahead.”
